Genisis S. (9th) A technique I learned in art this year that I really liked was the tube drawing. I did indeed enjoy the mixture of history and art. I enjoyed this mixture because it brought out the actual life of many paintings and showed their background of them. This showed the inspiration of the pieces and provided information on how I could paint and draw like them. You make art fun and enjoyable while being a very nice and sincere teacher. You care about the subject you teach which shows that you care. I learned about the tube drawings, shading, and perspective These were all very fun things to learn and create. It was indeed fun and meaningful because you made it meaningful.
Reagan L. (12th) I loved learning everything. Just learning new things makes me happy, especially in your classroom.
Bliss J. (11th) This year the thing I enjoyed most was painting. I've always really liked painting as a kid so I always get excited using it in classrooms! I also learned some techniques on how to get better at painting. I relearned how to have fun in an open environment.
Chloe S. (4th) This year in art I learned that I can do ANYTHING.
Michelle D. (4th) This year in art I have learned many things with Mrs. McCullin. One thing I learned was shading, shading in art class can be used for many things. You can use it to make a thing look 3D. You can use a tissue to shade, too. Another thing is painting, in painting you have many colors to use and many brushes you can use.
Rafe M. (4th) I have learned still life and how to draw shading. We have learned about a lot of artists, like Frida Kahlo.

2021-2022
Johnny R. (8th) I learned that art is easier than I thought and that I could actually draw and get a good grade for what I did. It taught me how to do many different things and how to get prepared to present and things that can involve presenting art. I learned many different styles of art and I learned about the people who made the art culture we know today. The different styles also show the emotion people put into their art and how they put the emotion they felt into art so the people looking at it felt the emotion. There are also different art styles which make the different art look unique. The different people we learned about changed the way art is today and made it so unique to others by teaching them how to use their own style to their advantage. I learned how to use my art style to an advantage and make my art look real. I also learned that art calms people and can help them through hard times if they just draw or do something including art. Also art has given me a more creative mind because I have had to make different drawings and think on the order and steps in making my drawing. It also can help with other things like engineering, etc. with blueprints and helping people understand what is happening. Art has also helped me in science work and ss work by helping me sketch and help me with my science research with drawings helping me memorize what i need to. It can help with money in the future by selling pieces of art and it can also help me with identifying pieces of art.
Kade M. (9th) Art is how people express their feelings. I have learned a lot about history, economics, and drawing art. One of my favorite types of art is pencil art because I can express more with less color. I really enjoy art class because it helps with the stress of other classes. I learned how to shade, 3d design, and graph alignment.
Emily Y. (8th) I’ve had a lot of fun in this class and I feel that I’ve gained a lot of experience. I learned painting techniques, such as watercolor and acrylic paint blending and cross hatching with ink. I’ve learned many different styles of art, whether it be self-expression through art, or polka tattoos with collages of different ideas. Overall, I’ve learned a lot of different skills and subjects and have gained much more art knowledge. First and foremost, I learned many painting techniques. The most memorable of which is cross hatching. Cross hatching is the technique of drawing straight lines overlapping each other to shade objects. It’s a technique usually used when drawing with pen ink. Ms. McCullin taught me this technique, and I think it’s a very useful skill for my future art pieces. Second, I created many different art pieces that expressed ideas such as self-expression; I created self-portraits that were not necessarily portraits of my face and my appearance, but portraits of how I perceive myself, and my traits. I created portraits of my hopes and goals in life, my past and my future. Another style that I learned was the form of polka tattoo art, collages of a wide variety of symbols and shapes, with harsh, geometric lines and color contrast with red and black hues. I loved making this art piece, and employed the technique of cross hatching onto it as well. This art class has benefited not only my art knowledge and art skills, but also my creativity and my sense of art style.
Ahmed N. (8th) I have learned in art you have to be aware of the creative process brainstorming, problem solving, and analyzing and evaluating art. I learned visual art helps people understand an art piece and help you better understand the reasoning behind the art piece. Art helped me learn and understand my cognitive process and how it affects my daily life. Art in this class helped me overcome certain things I thought I couldn’t do but could. The artist exhibition is another thing that helped art impact my life. It was a fun project that actually turned out fun the more thought I put into the art piece. It forced me to take more time in my art and make adjustments when needed. If there is something I also want to learn in Art is how to improvise a painting or drawing just by looking at it but that comes with time.
Sofia F. (8th) What I have learned this year was how to shade, paint, different types of art forms, and different strategies. We had talked about a lot of different things this year, from artists to the meaning of art, to different techniques. For example, we learned about this artist who displaced and showcased animals in resin. Where they were either dead and put into it or cut into sections to showcase the animals insides. Now we had done a lot of shading projects and practiced a lot of different shading techniques. One of the projects we had done was where we had to do a one point or two point perspective. In that project we took a shape and then took it down to just one point. I thought that was pretty cool because I felt that It really gave off that illusion. Another one that we had done was involving fabric. We would take our piece of fabric and shape it however we wanted, with a bunch of layers and folds. Creating all types of different shades. Another one was using paints. We used a lot of different paints and painting projects. For example, we had to create a dystopian world and a Utopian world where we really had to incorporate the two differences. Like a perfect fantasy and a dirty and miserable world. One of the other ones we just did that I thought was interesting was painting and then swapping it with someone. For mine I started with just a couple of dots then someone else added eyeballs, then flowers and vines. I thought that was pretty cool because that’s what they thought of creating in mine. Finally we learned about different types of art, different forms and strategies. We learned that art was not just something that was one piece of paper, but could be physical. An artist we learned about had put them-selves in a locker for 24 hours. They stayed there with people watching the locker and inside of the locker. In conclusion, We have learned about many things and I feel that It has really opened up my knowledge of art.
Zalen S. (8th) What I’ve learned while in Art class, Was that Art existed nearly 30,000 years ago and there’s more than one type of art including poetry, drama, story and so on. The visual arts, painting, drawing, sculpture, Etc. Also Graphic Arts like Painting, drawing, design, and other forms expressed on flat surfaces. The plastic arts sculpture, modeling the decorative arts enamelwork, photorealism, abstract, whimsical, and composite. If you have this class next year I highly recommend the class, also blending in paint, backgrounds. I learned how to draw a realistic eye, a copy of my shoe drawing. It impacted me by showing me more potential also better art works, tips and tricks and methods on the pieces.
Isaiah G. (8th) I learned a lot about art history and how each artist is unique. I also learned a lot about what is considered art, and how it can be more than just a paint and a canvas. I enjoyed trying different techniques to draw to see which one I like the best. The first thing that I liked about my art class this year was the history of art. We learned about a lot of different kinds of people, some were generic and others were unique. I can’t remember any of the artists' names but I do remember their pieces of art and some of the crazy things they did. Like the one girl who grabbed random pieces of trash and turned them into her art pieces. I’m pretty sure she also had a dead shark. I overall enjoyed learning all the different techniques and artists who used and started them.
Will H. (8th) We have learned a lot about art this year. My favorite thing I learned about this year has to be the techniques for making more realistic 3D drawings. In the 3rd quarter we had a project in which we created a somewhat 3D piece of art by drawing squiggly lines. In another project we learned about shading by trying to recreate a white sheet. We learned about one and two point perspectives and how to shade using that. I have found all these projects really helpful in making my ability to create 3D pieces and shade them better.
Jesus P. (8th) This year I learned a lot about art including how to make shadows realistic. I also learned how to shade using just lines This is a very cool way of shading the process takes pretty long but the outcome is very nice and looks pretty realistic. I learned how to draw a [self portrait] using charcoal pencils... I also learned to critique art pieces. This benefited me and helped me learn to use my learning process more efficiently. Art helped me understand my life better and helped me express emotions in my art as a whole. One thing I can relate to is the art exhibition we did in December. The 3 different art pieces I did help me understand more about art as a whole and how I can apply it in life. Thanks for teaching us about art.
Sameer K. (8th) [...] Another thing I learned in art was using paint and perspective drawing since I had some trouble with perspective but with the steps, I was able to improve on it. In addition, with me being able to do it better I also got to test new skills and try to create a drawing I had a very similar idea to but wasn't able to do due to my lack of drawing viewpoints. In addition, I also learned a lot about setting up the composition from our dystopian art projects and how to draw an image using grids which were fun and showed a good trick on how to draw portraits and make a composition in my drawings. Another thing I learned from drawing with the different styles we used is how to become more flexible in creating each sketch and drawing since due to the limit and materials I would have to work around them to create an idea or use them to create an idea. In all, I learned a lot of ways to draw and important parts of making drawings and painting.
Aiden A. (8th) What I have learned in art so far is how to shade with charcoal. How to display your art pieces in public. I learned how to make my art look unique. Being able to do those things makes my art look so much better and makes me not look bad. I love to go to art because we always do something so creative like switching paintings and letting others creativity show on paper. I learned my own art style and how it can affect others and how I can draw my childhood. I learned about Frida Kahlo and her history and how she pushed forward and made her art famous despite many controversies . I learned about Disney artists and how they got where they are today.
Auden H. (8th) What I've learned in art and how I apply it to my artwork. 1. Shading: I use it to add needed depth to my characters when i'm drawing. 2. Light Penciling: I use it as a sketchy base for my art as I'm developing it. 3. Coloring: I use color to add a nice layer of personality to the characters in my artwork. As you can see, the skills I've learned in [Mrs. McCullin's] class really improved the quality of my artwork from sketchy lines and slim lazily drawn figures to colorful, carefully crafted, well built and put together figures inspired by the comic art of the bronze age. But I still have trouble drawing hands. I'll figure it out eventually. Actually that could be a good thing for us to learn in class!
R.J. (8th) I learned how to express my feelings and emotions through art. There are many ways to express yourself is the main thing that this class has taught me. I have learned problem-solving too. For example, if I did not have the materials that I needed or wanted to have then I would have to find a replacement for it to substitute for the first idea. This class has created a huge impact on me not only was it educational and informational, but it was also inspirational. I enjoyed this class and hope that I will be able to take it again next year if I have the opportunity to do so. Skill wise I learned many things like blending, I even learned what a blending stump is, but also how to use it. I use the blending stump mainly because it just gives that wow factor that I really love to incorporate into my art work. When I first started this class I didn’t really like to do art that much and that was mainly because I wasn’t good at much of anything. When I finally started to learn some skills in [Mrs. McCullin's] class I started to feel satisfaction in my art because it finally looked good and I actually thought so instead of people just saying it and me not believing in what they say. I have also learned to paint detailed and also have been having fin while I paint in [Mrs. McCullin's] class. I hope that [she] keeps teaching me and many other students that [she] will have because my short time in [her[ class have multiplied my skills. Thank you.
Blair L. (8th) What I learned in art class this year is: drawing online, paradoxes, watercolor, acrylic paint, and shading, and I learned about artists that cut animals in half and put them in museums. One thing that I learned is drawing online and that was pretty hard to learn because going into it I had no clue how to work the program I was using. As I got familiar with the program I learned how to draw anime people. But as I got used to drawing people I learned how to draw more realistic people. I learned how to draw kpop idols, and that is what I am drawing currently. Some other things that I have learned are paradoxes. Paradoxes are myths that are very confusing to understand but once you figure out what they are saying it is easy to understand. The paradox that we learned about was The Ship of Theseus. This myth is about a ship that has one plank removed each year for 1000 years and replaced with a new plank. This ship is called ship A. Then with the old planks, they make a new ship. This ship is called ship B. The question is: “Which ship is the original ship? Ship A or ship B?” The answer is not ship A or ship B because the only original ship is the ship that they started with. One other thing that I have learned is how to shade correctly. I used to shade very badly until I learned how to shade correctly. When I first started to shade it looked very blocky, but once I learned how to shade it tarted to come together. One project we had to do was to draw tubes that looked like they were 3D almost. When I stated out shading them I had an idea about were the light would be coming from but as I progressed I forgot where the light was coming from. When I finished the drawing the light was coming from all different angles. In conclusion, what I have learned from this art class is that I can get better at things that I thought I could not do. I learned how to figure out very hard paradoxes and I learned about different types of artists. I can use this new knowledge in the future is that I can make better art pieces and I can tell my family about the different paradoxes I’ve learned about.
Mariana O. (8th) This year in art we have learned about many different styles we can use along with many new artists that impacted the world of art. I also learned new things about the history of art and many paradoxes. First we learned some new styles of art that can be used in different scenarios. For example we learned how to properly use one point perspective and to shade well. At the beginning of the year we went over how to draw an eye correctly along with many more things. I learned about many different artists whether that be older artists that helped to form art history, or newer artists that are currently breaking ‘rules’ about art. Examples of this would be Damien Hirst, he took animals and cut them in half which is not normal or typical in art. Debates over this brought up good conversation and was very entertaining to learn about. We learned about the people that impacted the view of art along with many different paradoxes. We talked about the ship of Theseus which brought up a good debate over whether ship ‘A’ or ‘B’ was the original ship. This was very entertaining to talk about and see everyone’s perspectives on different topics. Learning about one point perspective was a very helpful idea that can be used to make our art more realistic. Following the lines that lead to the center to make angles more realistic made a big impact on the final product of the art. Going along with this we learned a little bit about two point perspective which was a similar idea but instead of one dot in the center there were two dots more to the side. This one was a little bit more difficult to pick up on but the final product looked great as well. All the things I learned in this class had a big impact not only on my art but also just the way that I view a lot of things. Some of the conversations we have had throughout the year made me think of different things in ways that I never would have thought of. Now going out and hearing different things I am more easily able to try and see different peoples perspectives and try to get a better understanding of the topic(s). In conclusion, this class has taught me a lot of good information, not only about art but also things in the outside world. There are a lot of things I can take away from this class that I personally think will really help me in the future.
Hasaan D. (9th) I have learned a bunch of stuff in art class this year. I have always had a bit of a soft spot for art the entire time I’ve had the opportunity to be in the class. I have always found the course interesting and fun because it is a break from the usual schedule that we have to for. This year we had to learn some stuff in art which was new to me. We learned how to shade and use different mediums, mediums like pastels, acrylic paint, charcoal, and others which I will not bother to list.
Carlos C. (9th) This year in art I think the biggest thing I needed to learn was shading and Mrs. McCullin helped me with that. It was like in the middle of the school year but she had to do a zoom meeting and she showed us how to shade. Before I started shading and using color pencil I would just leave it in pencil now I am inking it and coloring it.
Ethan O. (9th) I learned many things in art this year. For example different perspectives of drawing/ sketching. I've learned to be more patient when doing art, it makes your results look a lot better. I also learned how to present in front of multiple people at once. One thing that I really liked in this class is our teacher. She is willing to help out, and lets us have fun projects. I think she is a very good teacher. She is very patient and kind. Art might not be my favorite subject, but I enjoy it more with our teacher.
Kade M. (9th) Art is how people express their feelings. I have learned a lot about history, economics, and drawing art. One of my favorite types of art is pencil art because I can express more with less color. I really enjoy art class because it helps with the stress of other classes. I learned how to shade, 3D design, and graph alignment.
Quincy M. (10th) In fine arts, I learned how to expand on my water coloring. Before I came to this class, I didn’t know how to make a galaxy or a combination of colors. [Mrs. McCullin] taught me how to overlay light colors with dark colors to make a cool effect. I believe that I really improved my watercolor painting skills because I gained new information and new techniques to help my art look better.
Finding MEASURABLE data in art and pe has been a fun challenge for me to attempt to tackle. I think I am still in the middle of figuring it out. PE has been a tad easier, because there are definable and measurable numbers associated with certain TEKs. But art does not. I have always loved art because it is not something that has a "right" or "wrong." There is no formula to follow that pops out the right answer every time. Yes we have processes and proper way to use materials, but when it comes to subject matter/use of materials/processes we have the unique ability to think outside the box. There are very rarely ANY numbers/data involved with art, so measuring growth is tricky. I have found several ways in which I measure my data. There are two main categories in which I measure growth. Visually: this is the easiest to way to track data. Here I look at before and after work from each of my scholars. Sometimes I measure quickly, like a pre-assessment, teach, post-assessment. This approach allows me to see where everyone is and helps me know where to start. Other times I take measurements over a longer period of time, such as begging of 9 weeks, semester or year to the end of the 9 weeks, semester or year. The scholars are aware of me looking at growth in their work, I also make sure I have having small check in alongs the way to make sure we are on track. Measuring like this though, is not always black and white, everyone's "base" is different. Some scholars are naturally talented at art, or have had private lessons in the past, or come from a background where some art fundamentals has already been instilled in them, these scholars will create more aesthetically pleasing work day one compared to a student with no interest or background in art. I CANNOT compare the two. My first month in the classroom is so important, this is when I learn of my students individual baselines. From there I can measure. This just takes time, it is time I am willing to take to make sure EVERY SINGLE SCHOLARS GROWS! The other way I measure growth is even more nuanced than the visual data, I listen to how my students SPEAK about the art I show them and the art we create together. Auditory growth tracking is so difficult to visually describe, but it is something that is noticed in the day to day workings of the classroom. There is a Depth of Knowledge (DOK) chart I have in my classroom, this breaks down the wording I can use to help the students understand the subject at hand even better. But this chart also really helps me assess where my students are too, I watch and see the words they use and the devices they use when describing art or art processes. For example, a scholar would naturally say at the beginning of the year when looking at a painting "I like those colors" to making observations such as "The colors the artist uses really show us how he is feeling and wants us to feel the same way. His color choices really make the foreground pop. The colors really help this art look realistic instead of looking like a cartoon or abstracted drawing." I help my students get to this point by first modeling this, I show art and I ask them to make observations. They make their simple commentary, then I show them how to more deeply observe or speak to a piece of work or a process. After some time of doing this in class, a bit later in the year I'll ask them to elaborate on their observations or explain why they think what they do, this helps them start to develop the thought process that leads to a deeper understanding! By the end of the year we are having very lively and sometimes heated/passionate debates on art, even with scholars as young as kindergarten. These discussion in the classroom give me goosebumps every time. This is what I look for, this is how I can see growth, again, that is hard to visually explain, but a conversation with a past art student of mine after an initial conversation with them prior to my course, would show that growth in them.
While art is not something that tracks data like traditional core classes. Growth is however evident. My impact on student learning is evident in many facets but not all are visible and traceable. However there are a few fun projects that do show my student's growth and my impact on them. Here you can see some before and afters of a famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh, "Bedroom in Arles." For this project they looked at this painting and was told to "copy the master" and they recreate it without knowing they will be doing it a second time. I collect the first attempts and then demo tips, tricks, and teach skills that will enhance their drawing abilities and then have them re-draw the image and you can see specifically some of the things I taught them (color blending, spacial awareness, perspective) in their secondary drawing. They don't realize the growth until I return both pages at the same time. I love seeing their reactions when they see the difference between the two.

4th Grade
In my 4th and 5th grade art classes we have been learning our basics, or foundations. This will help us build a base of art skills that we will be able to continuously grow on. In the past I have taught high school art classes and one of the largest issues I experienced was that somehow my high school students some how made it to me and most did not have some sort of basis of understanding on the basic art elements, principles, skills, techniques, or fairly common knowledge. So when I got the opportunity to teach elementary art I thought I would make sure I help lay the foundation in my students, that way they would be prepared and ready for their future art classes. Here you will see the growth from one drawing from an eye to the next. The first drawing was done with no teaching, it was simply a drawing pre-assessment to get an idea of where they were. I then taught them how to draw from observation, shade, the mathematical anomalies of the human face, tricks and tips and then we put it all together and created these INCREDIBLE drawings.
I have the desire to transform STEM into STEAM on our campus. I do so by incorporating STEM into my classroom. I do this with building projects centered around elements of science, technology, engineering and math. Here you can see images of students who studied the bones in the human hand and then recreated the structure using crayon, oil, and light. My students called it a "magic trick"!
Something that is important to me, is truly seeing each child and their specific gifts and interests. Here you can see one of these scholars and how I took time to specifically lift him up and encourage him by highlighting his talents and interests. This student was struggling in class and at home, he was feeling isolated and different than his peers. He also felt unseen/unheard/unloved by some adults in his life (not parents) and was overall feeling very defeated. I asked him to come teach my kindergartners how to draw some stuff he really enjoys drawing (roses and Spider-Man). He used my document camera and taught the classes step by step. My little ones LOVED it and walked away with some really cool art. And my little leader, he walked away with self confidence and self worth. We have been planning another time he can come back and do another lesson with them soon! While this is only one student who was impacted by my teaching, I try to so this for as many kids as I can. It is not data driven or traceable, but it is a impact on my scholars and I will continue to do things like this for the rest of my teaching career.
Art is one of the most IMPORTANT classes (in my opinion) because it can relate to all other subjects. Skills learned in art can be applied to so many "real life" situations. It opens minds and shifts paradigms. It shows us how big the world is and gives insight into other people's perspectives. It teaches us about economics, politics, it helps with big business breakdowns and is important knowledge for engineers and programmers. It documents history and gives readers insight into an author's world. It sells products, catches the eye of intended audiences, and becomes a recognizable entity for companies. Art is a part of EVERYTHING! I want my scholars to leave my class understanding the world a bit better. I always tell them I don't just teach art, I teach things they will use for the rest of their lives. They always kind of roll their eyes or laugh, but by the end of the year I can see that it is happening. I can see it in their work ethic, the way they speak about their art, and how they approach others and their opinions. If I ask them what they have learned so far in class (see Student Testimonies above) they mention art techniques and an artists or two, but they also mention things that are just real life things and I LOVE that.
As an art teacher, I have had an awesome opportunity to be a part of so many PBLs as a support! With me being a part of every team level most years, I get the chance to help out often. I really enjoy allowing for some design time in my classroom to help support the teams and their PBLs.
I absolutely LOVE the PBL model and wholeheartedly believe in it. (I don't know why more schools don't do this!) I really enjoy doing one or two large PBL in class each year (my support of other PBLs take up a lot of time as well). I really have enjoyed teaming up with other subjects and creating something so fun and educational (SYNERGY)!
I work really hard to find ways to help my scholars be successful. Sometimes it is in art or pe about those subjects. But I also get to know my kids individually and learn what it is what they want to succeed in and work individually to help them grow in areas they are interested in. I give tips and tricks on how to be successful in life with things I have learned along the way.
K-4th Grade artist worked together to put on a one of a kind show. 120 little artists had their artworks displayed at the University's FAC Gallery. This show caught the media's attention and select scholars were able to not only show their art to the student body at UTT, their families, and school faculty members, they also were able to show their art to thousands of viewers on Fox51 and KETK.
One of my favorite moments from the 2018-2019 school year was the UTTUA 4th and 5th grade art show, held at the UT Tyler Art Department's Art Gallery. This evening was a presentation for our 4th and 5th grade Van Gogh PBL. Parents, teachers, scholars, university faculty (including department chair), and university students were all in attendance. The students spoke about their PBL in the form of a gallery talk. Afterwards, we all celebrated together while we ate refreshments and enjoyed the displayed art and each other.
We had a second show scheduled for May 19th 2020 to showcase 4-5th grade's Pop Art exploration. This had to be canceled with the closing of school.
In my 4th and 5th grade physical education classes we are doing similar things as my art classes when it comes to laying the foundation for future physical activity. We practice and focus on good sportsmanship, skills and techniques, proper form, aerobic capacity, muscle growth, and the function and importance of physical fitness in daily life. I do this to help lay that foundation of good habits and prepare my students for future athletic teams they may join one day. I teach my students the importance of sportsmanship not only in athletics but in life. We focus on growth mindset and they know they are not simply "good" or "bad" at something, rather they are developing their abilities and how much work they put in with effect their success and output. Here you will see growth in their physical ability by their increased number of reps in exercises and a faster mile times. My students have put in a LOT of hard work and it shows. My 4th and 5th grades began the year suffering through half a mile and unable to perform sit ups and push ups in some cases. After a few weeks, turning into months of conditioning, weight training, and discipline my students are able to perform at an entirely different level than they were originally. I have also noticed an area of growth that is hard to measure but has not gone unnoticed. My students used to complain and say they couldn't do something now. They now line up for the task ahead ready to take the challenge head on like little warriors! Their confidence has increased TREMENDOUSLY! And that right there makes my teacher heart happy beyond words.
Chaperoned 4th grade to an incredible performance at UT Tyler. The show was fun to watch and culturally educational.
With COVID-19 we were forced to quickly adapt and provide education in a new way, with that we experimented with (and LOVED) our live Zoom meetings. We talked and laughed. (I cried happy tears). We were all back together!! It was so good for the soul. We drew together and had fun to socializing and being creative together.
In 2019/20120 I volunteered to spearhead the RCA House System implementation at our school. I have presented to the school as a whole, held small group meetings, created buy in, staffed a RCA House System House Lead Team, and have designed a roll out plan. This has not been an easy task and is in no way close to being finished. I am still in the middle of an uphill battle to get this system in place. The COVID-19 shutdown has stumped this process. I was hoping to have everything rolled out by the start of Fall 2020, but I'm afraid it will have to wait. This is a program I believe in with my whole heart and I am willing to fight to make it a reality in our school! To learn more about the RCA House System click here.
I helped facilitate the Gracie Barra School in presenting a lesson to 4th - 7th grade with Mrs. T. It was an awesome presentation and I think the kids really liked it!
I found and facilitated the 4th, 5th and 11th grade a day to work with a certified yoga instructor. The scholars really enjoyed having someone come in and teach something new!
Due to my certificate and degree both being in the same subject, Fine Arts, this makes me a "highly qualified teacher" in my content area. I think show natural leadership in my field of knowledge. I also plan on getting my Masters of Fine Arts (set to graduate with my MFA in December 2022), the highest level of degree you can obtain in Fine Arts.
My 11th grade physical education class has been one of the best classes I have ever had in my teaching career. This class is every teacher's dream. My students are ready and willing for anything I throw at them. I think partly it is due to the great scholars in that class and has absolutely nothing to do with me. They are naturally inquisitive, growth mindset oriented, and generally good team members. I saw this early on and knew if I took advantage of these incredible minds and willing hearts I could help them achieve greatness in the year I had them. And that is what we together as a class have done. This class, being older, already had some foundations of fitness. Some students had already found certain parts of fitness they enjoyed and have already been trying to improve themselves in many ways. That made me so excited! I had students who were WANTING to get better! We still needed to start at the bottom, we went over proper form, we had to walk a lot of our mile, we did only body weight workouts, and our conditioning days were filled with water breaks and complaining. I had some students who excelled in certain areas and I had them help other students who struggled or needed encouragement. They were able to learn and grow with the help of their peers. We slowly as a class began to be able to do more physically, we added in weights (HEAVY weights), we added in my technical movements and high intensity skills, we started not just surviving workouts rather planning our a strategic attack for a workout. I saw my students stop and strategize how to make their workouts work best for them and how to be as efficient as possible. At first they were hesitant and a tad nervous to try my workouts. But over time they have developed a willingness more than I ever expected. These kids never say no, they never assume they can't do something, they don't question my methods, they don't ask themselves anymore if something is possible, rather they just figure out how to make it happen. Here you will see measurable growth of reps increasing and mile time decreasing. They have absolutely, unequivocally, put the work in and have earned every bit of success. Again, what is not seen here is the growth of my students' self confidence, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
I collaborated in planning and creating polar express day for kindergarten through 3rd grade. The kids got to dress up, parade through in trains, meet Santa, eat treats, drink hot cocoa, make their own ornaments, and watch the movie The Polar Express! It was a MAGICAL day! I'm glad I got to be a part of the planning of it!
STEM Night I have created special U-Fit workouts and facilitated Football games for scholars and guardians in attendance. Along with creating fun activities with my 4th and 5th grade team. I participated in the idea challenge as well!
I was honored to be given the award of 2019 Teacher of the Month!
I, as a PBL presentation, orchestrated and facilitated an entire football game for the 11th grade class. This took weeks of work with scholars, hours of planning, money and time, and it was all worth it! It was one of my favorite days as a teacher, it was amazing to watch my students create, learn, problem solve, to find self validation, self confidence, self control, and self worth through the use of a PBL.

October 2019 the 4/5 team put on UTTUA's first ever Zombie Fun Run! The entire school was invited to come participate in a fun run through the school dressed up in their costumes!
3rd grade PE has been a lot of fun and has taught me a lot as a teacher. I got to be silly and play with my younger students. I always had a blast with them and looked forward to my class time with them. I saw so much growth in my scholars. Physically of course, but also in another area I really tried to work with them on. Self reliance. I wanted to allow my students to take control of their school life, show them they have control of their successes and failures. I wanted them to walk away from this year feeling ready to move on to 4th grade. I see there is a big jump from 3rd to 4th grade. They are leaving a self contained classroom and having to learn how to manage and organize themselves to be successful. I wanted to start prepping them now in small ways so when the next year roles around they will be prepared. I saw so much growth this year with my students, I cannot wait to see them next year!
