We look at Mesopotamian Votive Statues and recreated our own paintings of them. These votive statues used to represent the maker, so we made our statues in our likeness as well.
We spent the day being super heros! We celebrated each other and played games and made art crafts together.
In a moment of flexibility, we as a class joined together and designed and created costumes for the storybook parade for scholars who did not have a costume! It was so fun problem solving and collaborating!
For Valentine's Day our classes painted our fingernails! I absolutely loved this because it allowed me to sit down with each scholar who wanted their nails painted and have a fun, one on one conversation. They felt so special and I loved getting to know them more! Building relationships.. building trust!
We look at artist Jeff Koons and discussed his giant balloon animals. Then I taught the scholars (and Coach Hazelbaker haha ) how to make their own!
Directive Drawings are a very important part to learning about art. I love doing them with my classes because this allows me to chunk a lesson and walk them through demonstrating how to draw something. When we get done they love looking at their successful drawing they feel so confident in their art skills.
Creating our own paint and paintbrushes with items found in nature.
This is a fun silly game that the scholars love. I call out a person, place, or thing and they have a short time limit to make what I called out.
A drawing at the beginning of the year to see where we are artistically.
I was asked to facilitate our fall festival pumpkin painting station. We had so much fun being creative and getting messy!
